Our Story

At Big Little Farm, we are passionate about creating local sustainable food systems. Owners Brendan and Caitlin started out growing food on their tiny unit block in suburban Blackburn before moving to standard a 900sqm block next door. This experience taught them that anyone can grow an abundance of wholesome, healthy, organic food no matter where they live.

Having now been on the farm for nearly 7 years, they have implemented many natural processes to create a closed loop system. Several people have joined the team bringing a variety of skills sets and knowledge which all contributes to the health and productivity of the farm.

Together they wish to share their experiences and skills with others so that more people can experience the joy and health benefits of being connected to their food and the natural world.

we’re all about practicalities

There are plenty of courses available that can deliver the foundational learnings around Permaculture. We highly recommend VEG (Very Edible Gardens) with whom Brendan completed a Permaculture Design Certificate with in 2019 to formalise his existing knowledge and skill sets.

At Big Little Farm we want to assist people in getting their hands dirty and producing a yield, be it in the garden or in the home. To learn more about the natural world and come to appreciate its beauty and wonder in even the smallest details.

The members and associates of Big Little Farm are skilled at organic food production, preserving, fermenting, seed raising and saving, composting, pruning, landcare and water capture, storage and movement,

The bio-diversity and land care systems in place on Big Little Farm are an inspiration to those looking to make sustainable choices either on land or their back yard. Systems in place include rotational composting, solar powered pumps, animal integration, water harvesting, worm farms, no dig garden beds, habitat construction and structures made from fully reclaimed materials including greenhouses and poly tunnels.
